The Stars Turn Out for Sophie
North West Folk music clubs picSophie Jones is a nine year old girl with Spina Bifida and Cerebral Palsy. She is desperately in need of a machine which will improve her quality of life dramatically. The trouble is, such things don't come on the NHS.

As part of the efforts to raise funds for the purchase of this device, a concert will be held on Friday 23rd July at the World Famous Embassy Club in Manchester.

Artists confirmed so far are comedy songwriter Dom Collins, pop singer January, Ryan Cregan, Kristian Carter, Neil Diamond tribute act Steve Yorke and Motown DJ Frank Byrne.

Tickets are £5 each and can be purchased from the Stars for Sophie link at the bottom of the page. If you can't make it, but would like to give a donation, pay a visit to the site and there are instructions on what to do at the bottom of the page.

The organisers are also hoping that people will be able to donate prizes for the raffle. If you can do this, then get in touch with us via the contact link at the top right of the page and we'll pass the details on.

Times are hard and there are numerous demands on your budget, but this is a real chance to make a difference to a young life. Please do what you can.

A Bonfire with Zoe

Saturday 17th July sees American singer-songwriter Zoe Mulford celebrate the release of her new CD Bonfires with a concert at Sale Folk Club.

Zoe has been doing the rounds of English folk clubs since moving here in 2006 and her material has influences from Appalachian old-time music to contemporary folk. She will be appearing with Fluff (fiddle, cello), Phil Cawsey (bass), and members of Sale Folk Club, some of who feature on the album. The Bailey Sisters, Richard Sails, Pepper Street and Don & Heather Davies provide support.

Tickets are £8 from Sale Folk Club. Link in the usual place.

And as a Warm Up

Get yourselves along to the Mason's Arms in Egerton near Bolton on Wednesday 14th July. There's a singers night hosted by the Saggy Bottom Girls which is always worth a visit.

Entry is free and there's a few real ales to pick from in the sort of local boozer which is becoming all too rare these days. Proceedings get under way at 8.30 pm.

My Guitar is Ill

Andy Tatlock has asked us to mention his new business, A6 guitar repairs which trades out of Over Hulton, Bolton and offers a range of services including re-stringing, pick-up repairs & replacement, refrets and body and neck break repairs. Andy can be contacted on 07779 399815.
