It’s always a treat to see Geoff in action, a good evening is guaranteed. He started his set with a sea shanty, his big voice filling the tiny back kitchen of the Cross Keys public house, which is itself worth a visit. Built in 1745. it’s just outside Uppermill in a beautiful valley setting.
Geoff is a self-confessed Richard Thompson fanatic, so it was no surprise to hear three songs from that source in his set, my favourite being Vincent Black Lightning 1952.
Blessed with a quick with and good sense of humour, Geoff is well able to cope with heckling from the rowdier members of the audience. His new toy is a Mandola, groan worthily titled ‘Nelson’.
This stalwart of the live scene has been performing well over twenty years. Long may it continue.
