Once again it was Bull Bender time. This small festival is staged twice yearly by the Wilkinson Family, founder members Jim and Mu, who have been married for 52 years. All the clan are involved, from singing to bar work to breakfast making – a not to be missed treat of eggs, bacon, sausages, a brew and many slices of Mu’s home made bread.
The singing takes place in a barn, dubbed Tranmire Town Hall, erected by builders Bodgitt and Scarper. Everyone sits round on straw bales and carouses ‘til the early hours, fortified by real ale and beef butties (more of that home made bread.)
All are welcome, young and old, any standard. The youngest performers were five year old Saoirse who danced to her Daddy’s violin and Jonny, nine, who sang two songs, accompanied by Phil Harty. Another star was Sandra Hall, who delivered comic songs in a music hall fashion.
Last September, a gent’s urinal was added to the amenities. This year, it’s got a roof, much to the relief of the chaps (pun intended). A great time was had by all. Roll on September for the next one.
