Those looking for something a bit different could do worse than pay a visit to the Aspinall Arms in the Ribble Valley tonight, as Australian alternative country and blues man Rory Ellis plays the venue as part of his latest UK tour.
The voice, once described, as ‘Kris Kristofferson with a sore throat’, is something else, being both warm and authoritative at the same time. You wouldn’t want to mess with him, even if he wasn’t seriously big.
Ellis’s work is inspired by many sources, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Howlin Wolf, Jimi Hendrix and Woody Guthrie being amongst them, but his depiction of life in the less salubrious parts of Melbourne, in the finest folk storytelling tradition, is all his own.
The gig starts at around 9pm and admission is free. This is one not to miss.
