Despite having the appearance of three bag ladies who'd just nipped in for a quick gin and a warm, this trio treated us to a wonderful evening’s entertainment at Bromley Cross Folk Club with songs from America, New Zealand and the frozen wastes of Batley.
Moira Craig, Sarah Morgan and Carolyn Robson form a close harmony acapella group. although each is a seasoned solo performer. The material was varied and included a version of the Lowlands of Holland, Rob 'em All (to the the tune of Bless 'em All and a great number about chocolate, a subject dear to my heart.
I can also recommend their latest CD, The Axford Five purchased on the night, which is a collaboration with the Askew Sisters and celebrates the lives of five women, aged from 28 to 72 in Axford, Hamphire.
The songs were collected in 1907 by George Gardiner and include Long Langie, Bold William Taylor, Lord Derwentwater and the delightfully saucy Troopers Horse.
Craig Morgan Robson haven’t performed much in the Lancashire area. It is to be hoped they are in this neck of the woods again soon.
