Chorley based folk rock band Silver Dogs will be performing a home coming gig at Chorley Little Theatre on the 15th May

The band, described as a cross between Fairport and Pink Floyd, features Richard Curran (Anji Palmer) on violin and mandolin, and Becky Haslam, daughter of folk artist Ray Haslam on vocals. The first half of the evening will be given over to the works of Sandy Denny.

Tickets at £7.50 (£6.50 concessions) can be bought at Malcolms Musicland on 01257 264362 or from the link below.

Silent June, Not So Silent March

O'Hooley & Tidow (ex pianist from Rachel Unthank and the Winter Set, and the other one) are touring with Chumbawamba to promote their newly released album Silent June. To see their North West dates go to the gigs section on this site and do a search for Chumbawamba.

Lunch Time and Ragtime

Richard Moss, will be doing a free lunchtime gig at the Grand in Clitheroe on Saturday 6th March. He’ll be performing a set of blues, ragtime, folk and finger style guitar. The fun starts at 12.30 pm.

Speaking of Free Stuff

The Dog and Partridge on Bank St in Bolton are hosting an acoustic evening, also on 6th March. It starts at 9pm and features Rob Young and Kev Bates (worth the trip for these two alone), Throwing Pandas, Antistar, Creatures Creating Acoustic Wonderment and The Seeds.from Leeds. No entry fee.

Although not a folk venue as such, the Dog has done a great job of supporting live music for a long time. Maybe that’s why the council keep trying to knock it down.

Celebrate a Life

The Houghton Weavers and Whiskey in the Jar are putting on a Jimmy Jones Celebration Night at Leyland British Legion Club on Friday 21st May.

‘Jimmy Jones was a severely disabled friend of both bands and we celebrate his life among family and friends. Jimmy was a true inspiration,’ writes WITJ band member Phil Taylor.

Tickets priced at £5 are available from Phil witj@hotmail.co.uk or by post from Phil 99 Railway Road, Leigh, Lancs, WN7 4AD. Proceeds to Lancashire Phab.
