 Harmonica Day
The harmonica isn't normally an instrument that you’d associate with folk music, but Mat Walklate is planning to change that. He’s holding a harmonica afternoon at the Band on the Wall in Manchester on 18th April.
Mat will give talks on how to play in every style, from beginners to advanced level. Special guests will demonstrate how the harmonica can be used in all forms of music, including folk, roots, Irish, world, blues, rock, country, jazz, classical and more. Tickets are priced at £5 with concessions for the unwaged.
The House Without a Name
Or the No Name as the locals call it. Cityscape Records have been promoting events at this pub in Harwood, Bolton for a while and there are some folky type artists coming up.
Acoustic blues man Tom Hingley appears on April 11th, Kirsty McGee on April 18th and Bolton’s own folk rock band Reel Gentlemen are doing a shift on 9th May.
No admission fee for this, so there’s just your beer to pay for.
Fancy a Marathon at Easter?
What a nice sub-title that would have been. If only they hadn't changed the name to Snickers. Barnsley Folk Club host a three day sing around event over the Easter period from Friday to Sunday. On the final day, Alberts' Skiffle band will be the guests followed by Jim Mageean and Graeme Knight’s sing around. A fiver for that bit.
The Hole Gets Bigger
The Hole Note Acoustic Club in Hebden Bridge continues to thrive and organisers Craig Priestly and Mand Harris have been asked to set up another evening. The first of these will be at the Sportsman's Arms Kebs Road, Todmorden on 23rd April with an 8.30 pm start.
Guests are Peter Butler, Mand, Gloria Jeffries, and traditional folk trio Folk On Fire. Admission free.
