Bows at the Ready
The Band on the Wall in Manchester are holding a 10 week course in Irish traditional fiddle styles taught by rising folk star Emma Sweeney.
There are two classes, one for beginners, the other for more advanced students and both will get a chance to play in front of a live audience on the Band on the Wall stage at the end of the course, should they wish. The fun starts on 14th April. Full details from the link at the bottom.
They Call Me Mellow Yellow
The first Mellow Yellow on the Pier event takes place in Blackpool in the Victorian Sunlounge on the North Pier Promenade on Saturday, 15 May 2010. (Way too many 'ins' and 'ons' in that last sentence.)
The line up includes Edwina Hayes, The Roots Union, Troubadour, Spiral Scouts, Andy Stones, Karima Francis, Lupa Tom, Jon Brindley, Dirty Scavenger, Steph Fraser, Karl Culley and The Magdalenas.
Tickets are available now from HMV Blackpool, the Arndale in Manchester and from the link below, but there are only 500 available, so get a move on. How’s that for a sales pitch?
Bolton Council in Doing Something Right Shocker
Saturday 17th April sees a day of dance at Bolton Rugby Union Football Club, including both Morris and Appalachian styles, in an event that has been funded by the council.
There’s a ceilidh in the evening in the big marquee (so room for the most flamboyant foot stomper) which features Albireo and caller Martyn Harvey. Music sessions will be held from 5pm to 7pm and after the ceilidh for a couple of hours. If you're not going you'll need a note from your mum.
And Whilst in Bolton…
Don’t forget that Kirsty McGee is playing the House Without a Name in Harwood on Sunday evening at 9pm. You usually have to pay for that pleasure, but this one’s a freebie.
