A Triple Serving of Folky Goodness
North West Folk music clubs picBank Holiday on its way and three mouth watering concerts coming up. The sun's shining too. At least for now.

Close to Sold Out

Friday sees the long awaited Friends New and Old concert to celebrate five years of Friends of Folk and the launch of a new partnership with the Rose Theatre in Ormskirk. The box office is on 01695 584480

Maddy Prior, Ken Nicol, Abbie Lathe, Chris & Siobhan Nelson, Blackheart, Andrew Keeling, The Bailey Sisters and Simon Fox take to the stage. It might be quicker to list those who aren't taking part. With that lot to get through it'll probably finish about 3 am.

Want More of Maddy?

Of course you do, so why not sample something a bit different? The Prior woman is undertaking a short tour with harpist Nick Hennessy in a collaboration that links story and song. Apparently, the idea grew 'organically', or in other words by accident.

The tour stops at the Hornby Institute near Lancaster on Thursday 6th May. Tickets, priced £12 can be obtained by ringing 07837 367560. Those who prefer snail mail can send a cheque made out to 'Curlew Music' to 56 Victoria Park Avenue, Leyland, PR25 1UG. Alternatively go to the online shop at the FOF Promotions link below.

But I Can't Wait that Long

Then don't despair, but you’ll have to point the bus in a different direction. The concert hall at Bangor University plays host to Patsy Reid's Bridging The Gap on Saturday 1st May.

Bridging the Gap was originally written for Celtic Connections 2008 as part of the New Voices series, where fiddler and composer Patsy Reid, combined her experience and love of both traditional and classical music. This will be the first time this suite of music has been performed outside Scotland, and is the only non-Scottish concert on Patsy's six-date tour.

Tickets are priced at £12, £9 for concessions and £5 for Students with some attractive prices for children. Call 01248 382009 for further details or visit the link at the bottom.
