The summer's folk festival season is well under way and a quick peek at this site’s event's guide will give you a taste of what's to come, with a number of well established and high profile shindigs.
But let's not forget the smaller events – especially the ones where you only have to pay for your beer.
One of these is the inaugural Smugglers Folk Festival in Morecambe, which will be held this coming weekend. The fun starts on Friday at 7.30 pm with a folk disco, followed by a performance by Brian Preston at 9.30 pm.
Saturday sees an open session with music, poems and dance (and the disco) starting at noon. Then Hard Times take to the stage at 9.30 pm. Sunday has the same format, but Penny Black will be rounding proceedings off.
The venue is the Smugglers Den, Morecambe’s oldest pub, which is at 56 Poulton Lane. Visit the Smugglers Den website, which contains all the necessary info, including how to find it.
And to Get you in the Mood.
May's Astley Session at the The Astley Arms, 1 Chapel Hill, Dukinfield, has a four act line up starting with Phil Middleton. Then there’s Garron Frith, Jason Johnson and Tom Hingley ex of the Insprial Carpets who's a delta blues man these days. This all kicks off at 8.30 pm on Thursday 27th May, and once again it’s free admission.
